Surface604 is another consumer-direct e-bike brand that also reaches shoppers through a surprisingly large dealer network covering North America—as the brand is based in British Columbia, they have dealers across Canada as well as the US.
The bikes Surface604 produces are higher-end than we often see from consumer-direct companies. All of their e-bikes come with a 9-speed drivetrain, indicating their belief that narrow-range 7-speed drivetrains don’t do enough to help riders who live in hilly places. All of their e-bikes feature a torque sensor. A torque sensor improves a rider’s experience by providing power the moment a rider begins pedaling, and it responds proportionally to the rider’s effort, adding more power when it senses the rider making a bigger push.
The Surface604 lineup includes 12 different e-bikes ranging from commuters to fat-tire and all-terrain e-bikes and even one folding e-bike. They make e-bikes with traditional frames, low-step ones and some with step-thru configurations. A number of their models also offer buyers a choice in frame size in order to achieve greater comfort on their e-bike.
With one exception, all of their e-bikes offer riders a choice of batteries. Most of their e-bikes come with a 48V, 672Wh (14Ah) battery, which can be upgraded to a 48V, 960Wh (20Ah) unit. The Surface604 e-bikes are powered by a 500W brushless, geared Bafang hub motor. They are shipped as Class 2 e-bikes, but can be “unlocked” to achieve Class 3 speeds.
Anyone looking for an e-bike with a more responsive motor and more gears will want to consider Surface604.
