Santa Cruz, Calif.—Blix has introduced a new e-bike model, the Dubbel, which is a utility bike meant to bridge the difference between a commuter and a full-fledged cargo bike. Blix gave the Dubbel a stout rear rack integrated into the frame to make it easy to carry kids, groceries or most any other load.
The Dubbel is built around a 750W hub motor producing an impressive 190Nm of torque—numbers that suggest the Dubbel should go uphill even when loaded down. It can be ordered with either one battery (integrated into the down tube) or two (the second mounts behind the seat tube). As a result, the e-bike will go for either $1999 (one battery) or $2499 (two batteries), but for the launch, Blix is knocking $100 off those prices.
Other notable features for the Dubbel, which is named for a strong Trappist beer, and this bike is meant to be strong, include:
- 750W brushless hub motor
- 48V, 672Wh battery
- Range: 40 mi. (one battery), 80 mi. (two batteries)
- Can be ridden as Class 2 (20 mph max + throttle) or Class 3 (28 mph max)
- Zoom hydraulic disc brakes w/180mm rotors
- 8-speed drivetrain
- 20 x 3.3-in. tires
The Santa Cruz-based company was founded by Swede Pontus Malmberg who wanted to bring the e-bike revolution to the U.S. “Adding more activity and enjoyment into the day-to-day will be crucial for people’s wellbeing in the future,” Malmberg said. “You need products that offer a really great experience for different lifestyles and needs; that combines functionality with compelling design and technology which work seamlessly in the everyday. That’s why we developed the Dubbel.”
Stay tuned as the team at Best Electric Bikes will be fully reviewing the Blix Dubbel soon!
